What an Outsourced Close Should Deliver
Outsourced year-end accounting is useful when the business needs an external close team to reconcile balances, document adjustments and hand over a usable pack. The Federal Tax Authority's Accounting Standards Guide sets the reporting context for Corporate Tax. Management still approves the accounts, and an appointed auditor remains responsible for any statutory audit opinion.

Outsource the close when the handover is the missing product
Outsourced year-end accounting is a defined close performed by an external team using your ledger and source records. The team reconciles balances, prepares supported adjustments, documents open questions and returns working papers that the next tax preparer or auditor can read. The Federal Tax Authority Accounting Standards Guide supplies the reporting context. It does not transfer management's responsibility for the accounts.
The useful result is a frozen trial balance with a clear bridge to the bank, receivables, payables, assets, payroll and tax accounts. A general ledger export is not enough if nobody can explain the old balance or locate the invoice behind a late entry. The engagement should say what the team will test, what it will return and what remains for management to decide.
An independent auditor performs any required statutory audit. Exiloz can prepare the accounting schedules and audit support, but it does not perform the statutory audit or sign an audit opinion. The outside team should label its work as preparation, reconciliation or support, so the recipient knows which parts still require management approval or an auditor's own procedures. That label prevents a prepared schedule from being mistaken for an audit conclusion by the person receiving the close file.
Choose an outside team for a defined bottleneck
This arrangement suits a business whose staff can provide records but cannot finish the close, reconcile several account groups or write the tax handover. It can also suit an owner who has inherited a ledger from another provider and needs the opening balances tested before the next return is prepared. The first object to review is the latest trial balance with its date and version.
We recommend keeping management's decisions with management while the accounting team owns the evidence trail. That division is clear because the external team can test a balance, but only the business can confirm what a payment was for, whether a service was received or whether an unusual transaction reflects its operations. Do not outsource an unanswered business fact.
You may not need an outside close team if the reconciliations are current, the source records are indexed and an internal reviewer can explain every material open item. If that is not true, decide which bottleneck matters most today: missing documents, unreconciled balances, cut-off entries or the tax bridge.
Buy named files, not a promise to help
A written scope should identify the records the outside team will request and the files it will return. It should distinguish preparation from approval. The accountant may draft a cut-off entry, but management approves the business fact behind it. The team may prepare an audit schedule, but the independent auditor decides what evidence is needed and performs the audit work.
Use the table when comparing proposals. Each output has a source and a decision attached to it. If a proposal says the team will reconcile everything, ask whether that includes payment gateways, intercompany balances, card processors and tax control accounts. The missing line is often where the final fee and the final delay appear.
The FTA guide says accounting income is the basis for determining taxable income before the relevant tax adjustments are applied. That makes the tax bridge part of a useful handover, not a replacement for the accounts. Keep both files together and label which figure is accounting profit and which is the tax result.
| Deliverable | Source records | Approval left with |
|---|---|---|
| Reconciled trial balance | Ledger, statements and subledgers | Management confirms unusual balances |
| Adjustment log | Contracts, invoices and calculations | Management approves business judgements |
| Tax handover | Tax bridge and supporting schedules | Tax preparer reviews the treatment |
| Audit support file | Lead schedules and source documents | Independent auditor sets audit evidence |
| Open-item report | Missing records and owner responses | Management resolves the remaining facts |
Make the outside team earn the handover
Begin with a dated records request and a short review of the trial balance. The team should list exceptions before posting corrections, then reconcile the high-risk balances to statements, schedules and later transactions. Every proposed adjustment needs a calculation and source document. Every unresolved item needs an owner, a requested document and a decision date.
Example scenario. Draft revenue is AED 49,000,000 and a further AED 2,000,000 is identified before management signs the accounts. AED 49,000,000 + AED 2,000,000 = AED 51,000,000. Since Ministerial Decision No. 84 of 2025 sets an AED 50,000,000 audited-financial-statements threshold, the outside team should flag the audit scope rather than quietly post the amount and leave the consequence for the tax preparer.
At handover, management receives the final trial balance, reconciliations, adjustment log, tax bridge and open-item report. If an audit is required, those files go to the independent auditor through the agreed process. A clean handover is a deliverable. It is not a claim that the accounts have been audited.
The engagement letter decides what outsourcing means
The price is driven by entities, accounts, transaction volume, record quality, reconciliations, reporting needs and the number of judgement-based entries. It also changes when the business has inventory, gateways, foreign currency, related parties or an audit-support requirement. Ask the provider to state what happens when source records are missing. A documented exception is work. An unsupported assumption is risk.
The evidence boundary is real. The FTA Accounting Standards Guide explains the relationship between financial statements, accounting income and Corporate Tax, but it does not specify an outsourcing fee or define your service provider's engagement scope. The agreement must do that. Exiloz is not a registered Tax Agent, and accounting support does not make it one. The service scope must say who prepares, reviews and approves each file.
Before you decide, request a sample close index showing the trial balance, reconciliation status, adjustment support, tax bridge and unresolved items. If the proposed deliverable cannot be inspected by the next reviewer, it is not a handover yet. Start with the file you need in your hands, then price the work required to produce it. Ask for the exception process too, because missing records are where a neat timetable usually breaks.
Frequently Asked Questions
For deciding what to hand over.
What does outsourced year-end accounting include?
A defined engagement can include ledger review, reconciliations, cut-off entries, adjustment notes, supporting schedules and a handover for the next return. The Federal Tax Authority's Accounting Standards Guide supplies the reporting context. The written scope should state which records the business must provide and which decisions remain with management.
Does outsourcing transfer responsibility for the accounts?
No. An external team performs the agreed accounting work, but management remains responsible for approving the accounts and business explanations. The Federal Tax Authority's guidance describes the reporting requirements, not a transfer of accountability. Any appointed auditor remains responsible for the statutory audit opinion.
Should the accountant prepare the tax return too?
That depends on the engagement. Ask whether the handover stops at reconciled accounts and tax working papers or continues into return preparation. The Federal Tax Authority's Accounting Standards Guide explains how accounting information interacts with Corporate Tax, while the service scope should state who completes and reviews the filing.
How do I choose an outsourced close team?
Ask for the deliverables, records required, reconciliation method, review process, open-item reporting and management approvals. The Federal Tax Authority's Accounting Standards Guide supports the need for traceable financial reporting. Choose the team whose written scope matches the gaps in your ledger, not just the lowest fee.
